Kundalini Yoga & Meditation
According to the Kundalini Yoga tradition the three most important nerve channels in the body are the Ida, Pingala, & Shushmana.
Ida nadi refers to the left sided dominant energy of the body guided by the right hemisphere of the brain. When we breathe through the left nostril we are breathing through the feminine lunar energy. This is the cleansing & eliminating energy carrying cooling, relaxing, lunar energy.
Pingala nadi refers to the right sided dominant energy of the body guided by the left hemisphere of the brain. When we breathe through the right nostril we are breathing through the masculine sun energy of the body. This is the energizing energy carrying warming, energizing, solar energy.
Shushmana nadi refers to the neutral energy running up the length of the spine all the way to the top of the head. It is the main channel that the kundalini rises. This channel is related to the ‘joyful mind’ or the most ‘gracious mind’.
Along these channels are the main subtle energy channels called ‘chakras’. From the tailbone to the top of the head and beyond. When these chakra centers are spinning appropriately we can be in a good state of balance.
When we practice breathing techniques to stimulate the channels, called pranayama, we are attempting to clear the pathways for energy to flow.
Pranayama is a breathing practice predominantly practiced through the nose. Although there are many practices that do use other forms of breathing, one of the reasons why Kundalini Pranayama uses nose breathing is to cleanse and clear these channels creating an effortless pathway through the Shushmana pathway of neutrality leading to the peaceful mind.
As we increase the oxygen to these channels we increase the oxygenation of the blood of the body working energetically and physiologically having a multilayer effect of health and healing on the body, mind, and spirit.
We are creating a triad of consciousness effectively helping us transform on many levels.
Each individual has its own unique experience and as such it is directed through the specific pranayama geared towards a specific effect as intended by the chosen meditation piece.
Kundalini yoga and meditation studied and performed for thousands of years, is nothing short of effective and timely in its ability to help heal the body and soul. For the yogi who chooses to integrate its practice regularly, the positive effects can be limitless and long lasting.

This week:
Experience the practice of Alternate Nostril breathing meant to promote a stimulating and cleansing effect to the two channels of the body: ida & pingala. Building a relationship between the channels and eventually coming into a balancing effect of the energy flow.
Clarify the subtle body through simple arm movements within this energetic auric layer as we listen to the chant of tantric ‘Har’. A prosperity meditation with breath and movement.
Receive the effects of long lasting shavasana always with the intention of reintegrating the body to a new vibration.
And finally complete the reintegration with a final meditation at your new level of consciousness before we depart.
